Chapter History
Organization of
BETA UPSILON CHAPTER
Sarasota, Florida
June 7, 1969
For more than two years Zeta considered plans of dividing her large membership into two groups. Although no one wanted to leave Zeta, most agreed that the group was too large for efficient operation. Finally, in the fall of 1968, with the help of State Expansion Chairman Dorthea Heinrich, the membership decided to form a new chapter in the northern area. Members were given freedom of choice concerning affiliation at the time of division.
On June 7, 1969, Beta Upsilon Chapter received its charter from Mu State President, Mrs. Isabel Powell. Mrs. Powell and Mrs. Heninrich installed sixty-one members of Zeta Chapter as charter members of Beta Upsilon Chapter.
Beta Upsilon was subsequently divided on May 23, 1981 into three chapters. Mu State President Gerry Adams installed Gamma Tau and Gamma Upsilon Chapters with thirty-three and forty-one members respectively.
Gamma Tau was later dissolved by mutual assent and members who wanted to remain joined one of the other 3 chapters again... The consensus, as I heard later (I was invited to join in 1984) was that they should have only formed one additional chapter, Gamma Upsilon, at the time instead of two new ones, plus keeping B.U.. Breaking Beta Upsilon into 3 separate chapters spread the leadership and membership too much.
